About the Artist

Behind the lens

My journey with photography began in 2001, when my sister gifted me my first camera — and there has been no looking back since.

I'm Shekhar Jay — a photographer obsessed with light, character, and the quiet moments that say everything. What drew me in was the magic of capturing candid instants: smiles, laughter, even tears. I became fascinated by the ability to freeze fleeting moments in time, turning them into lasting memories. Whether it's the perfect sunlight, a glowing sunset, or simply the feeling of fresh air, photography allows me to preserve emotions that might otherwise pass unnoticed.

Over the years, my lens expanded from everyday life to working with models, actresses, brides, families, and brands across Australia and beyond — including editorial publications and international exhibitions. Photography became a way to capture attitude, confidence, freedom, and self-expression — each frame telling a story of individuality and strength.

For me, photography is not just about images — it's about reflection. When you look back at a photograph, it becomes a joyful reminder of who you are and the people who matter most.
