5 Best Locations for Family Photos in Rouse Hill & North Kellyville (2026 Guide)

If you're searching for a family photographer in Rouse Hill or North Kellyville, one of the first decisions you'll face is where to have your session. As a local photographer based in North Kellyville, I've shot family portraits across every park, reserve, and open space in the Hills District, and I'm sharing my five absolute favourites here.

Whether you want open paddocks, towering eucalyptus trees, historic fences, or golden-hour grasslands, the north-west corner of Sydney punches well above its weight as a photography backdrop. Let's explore each location.

1. Rouse Hill Regional Park, The Hills District's Best-Kept Secret

Rouse Hill Regional Park is my go-to for family photography in the Hills District, and it's where I return season after season. The park spans hundreds of acres of open paddocks, native bushland, Second Ponds Creek, and historic Rouse Hill House and Farm, giving you at least four completely different looks within one location.

The Farm Look

Near the heritage Rouse Hill Estate, the iconic wooden fences, gravel paths, and old stone walls create a timeless, country feel. This backdrop is particularly stunning in autumn when the grass turns golden.

The Nature Look

Head toward the lower paddocks and Second Ponds Creek for something more organic, long native grass, eucalyptus trees, and wide-open skies. Perfect for running, laughing, and genuine candid moments.

Golden Hour

Because the park is so open, golden hour here is spectacular. I always recommend arriving one hour before sunset for that dreamy, hazy light you see throughout my portfolio.

Photographer tip: Wear comfortable flats or boots, some of the best spots require a short walk off the paved paths. Bring heels in a bag and swap once you reach the location.

Rouse Hill Regional Park is free to enter, has ample parking, and is open from 8am to 8pm (September to April). It's ideal for families with kids, there's plenty of space to run and explore between shots.

2. Withers Road Reserve, North Kellyville

This reserve is practically in my backyard, and it's a hidden gem for family photography in North Kellyville. The open grassy areas, natural tree lines, and peaceful atmosphere make it perfect for relaxed lifestyle sessions. It's quieter than Rouse Hill Regional Park, which means fewer people around during your session.

It's ideal for younger children, the flat terrain is pram-friendly, and the open spaces mean toddlers can wander while you capture genuine documentary-style moments.

  • Best time: Tuesday–Friday late afternoon. Weekends can be busy with locals using the park.

3. Lakes Edge Park, Rouse Hill

Just minutes from Rouse Hill Town Centre, Lakes Edge Park offers a scenic lake, beautiful greenery, and walking paths that create a sophisticated, almost European feel. The reflections on the water add depth to portrait compositions that you simply can't replicate elsewhere in the area.

This location works particularly well for family sessions where you want a polished, editorial aesthetic, the kind of images that look stunning framed on a living room wall.

4. Kellyville Ridge Parklands

The Kellyville Ridge area offers multiple connected green spaces with mature trees providing beautiful dappled light, the holy grail of natural light portrait photography. When the light filters through the tree canopy in the late afternoon, it creates a soft, wraparound light that flatters every face and every age.

This is my top recommendation for grandparent-inclusive family sessions, as the terrain is accessible and the atmosphere is relaxed and unhurried.

5. Your Own Back Garden, Seriously

Don't underestimate the magic of a home session. Some of my favourite family portraits have been shot in Hills District backyards, morning light through kitchen windows, kids in their natural habitat, the family pet joining in. A home session captures something no park can: the feeling of belonging to a place.

If your home has a garden with decent natural light and some greenery, it's worth considering, particularly for families with babies or children under two who are more settled in their own environment.
